Common Core Learning Standards
The Common Core State Standards provide a consistent, clear understanding of what students are expected to learn, so teachers and parents know what they need to do to help them. The standards are designed to be robust and relevant to the real world, reflecting the knowledge and skills that our young people need for success in college and careers. With American students fully prepared for the future, our communities will be best positioned to compete successfully in the global economy.
Over the next few years you will notice some changes to instruction and testing in our school that will directly impact your child. It is essential that you know about these changes and what resources are available to help you support your child.
This portion of the Middle Schools website has been added to assist parents by informing them of these changes and to provide additional information and resources about the Common Core Learning Standards.
During the 2011-2012 school year our staff has worked hard to prepare for a seamless transition and implementation of the CCSS. However, the new standards requires more rigor, focuses on reading comprehension, and includes a heavier emphasis on writing, grammar, informational text, thinking skills, better instruction, and literacy across the curriculum.
