Internet Safety Tips for Parents

Who sends unwelcome messages and suggestions to children and young people, and how common is it?

Here are some things you can do right now to keep you children safe:

1.  Go on-line together to know the internet and the services your child uses.

2.  Set rules and guidelines for internet useage and monitor their use, especially the amount of time spent online.

3.  Never disclose any type of personal information online to anyone

4.  Position your children's computer in an area of the house that you can have instant access to while your children are online.  (Familyroom, kitchen, livingroom and not in their bedroom)

5.  Get to know who your childrens online friends are.

6.  Upgrade the security features of your browsers to limit your childrens access to certian sites on the internet.

7.  Purchase blocking and filtering software.

8.  Remember, the parents are in control of what children see on the internet, not the child.  No matter what the say!
